The problem
Employment and economic issues have always had major impacts on American society. Our prosperity is based on the increased productivity that automation, innovation, and trade produce. But automation, innovation, and foreign trade often lead to job losses. Job losses often create great hardships and economic problems. How can all Americans prosper as automation, innovation, and trade keep changing working and living conditions?
Observation: Over time the overall level of employment in America has always been very high. Why is this true?
The answer is fairly simple and goes back to basic human nature. Automation, innovation, and foreign trade have always led to lower costs and increased availability of goods and services. Lower costs and greater availability of goods and services enable people to fulfill their desires to increase their standard of living. Higher standards of living lead to the creation of new industries and employment opportunities to support increased consumption, shorter working hours, more leisure activities, and longer lifespans.
The solution
America’s problem is not a lack of resources, goods, or services, but the fact that many individuals do not have the personal resources needed to adjust to changing conditions. The CSS solutions package is designed to help fix this. If adopted, all Americans will have the tools (income, healthcare, education, and housing) needed to adjust to changing conditions. This does not mean everyone will adjust successfully. It only means that all Americans will have the tools needed to do this. Giving people realistic opportunities is what America is all about.
